Hear me out. What if you don’t need another break from “life”? Disclaimer: I am not talking about caregivers because they need as many breaks as they can get or parents of young children. But they, too, may not need another break. Once again, hear me out.
Life keeps giving you highs and lows back to back. So, you take a break. It’s the boss, the people on the job, the job itself, so you book a vacation (you need a break). It’s the people in your life. So, you avoid them as much as you can, you get away. It’s the situation. You take a walk but, when you come back, nothing has changed. A break. Breaks are important in life. You need a second wind. You need to clear your head. You need to manage your emotions. You need to adjust. But what happens when you keep coming back to the same thing, same situation, same people and nothing is changing? Maybe you change. Maybe you adjust. But they/it does not and you find yourself needing-another break?
What I got out of Jamaica was time well spent with family and much needed fun. I got great memories. But I came back home with salmonella poisoning. I came back home to the narcissist in my life that keeps kicking up dirt. I came back home to a stressful situation. I didn’t really have a change to savor the afterglow of vacation. And just when I thought to myself I need a break!!!! I heard, as clear as day, “You don’t need another break. What you need is a breakthrough!” Mind. Blown. The 😮 wow look on my face in real time was priceless.
You need a GOOD drastic change or a change in your life that leaves you feeling relieved, renewed, restored. Maybe even a miracle. You need a deep cleansing of the heart, mind and soul that will give you a new perspective and dare I say, a new found freedom. If you wear glasses, you know how you’ve been working or life-ing all day in your glasses and you suddenly decide to clean your glasses? Like, “Wow! I’ve been seeing through muck all day!” Yeah, like that. Except it’s the muck of life.
A breakthrough isn’t gentle. Not usually. It requires great pushing and force to come through to the other side. Think persistence and perseverance. It looks like changing the course completely around the obstacle. It looks like busting up the obstacle (not literally!). It looks like going under the obstacle to the other side. Practically, removing the obstacle or removing yourself. It could be having some big paradigm shift that moves you so high above your obstacle it looks like the ant it is instead of the mountain before you. It’s like a big wind coming through and moving the obstacle away from you (miracle!).
When breakthroughs happen, things usually get worse before they get better. I know that sucks. BUT, the best advice I have been given is to NOT ENGAGE directly with the people, the situation, but listen to, stick to the solutions, go with the opportunities that present themselves until it is CLEAR. You can expect to wrestle with your thoughts and with others’ opinions if you let them become a factor. You can expect all hell to breakloose before your breakthrough. And isn’t that kind of what you want? The “hell” to break-loose from you? Yes. You want it to get the hell away from you! (I don’t know why I am so tickled about that!)
I need a breakthrough. It’s one of those something has to give moments in life. What about you? Do you need a breakthrough?
