Sunday Morning Coffee Musings: A Time To Put Off Tomorrow

“Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today.” -possibly said by Benjamin Franklin. Well, Ben, I know this is about procrastination but, I believe there is a time for putting off things until tomorrow what you could do today. What time is that? When you are overloaded and overwhelmed. Some things can actually wait until tomorrow or the next day or next week. Maybe, next month or year. Especially, if you think it’s a NEED but it’s really a WANT. I don’t think recognize how grand our to do list can be. I don’t think we realize we can say no to things and people (including a spouse, children, family, friends, and even a job). If you are willing to feel the false guilt, deal with some of those people’s unpleasant reactions (which should give you INSIGHT to the person (no judgement needed)).

I think we must come to ourselves and realize some things and some people can wait. They can wait for you to do what you want to do, too. They can wait for you to rest. They can wait for you to work on your own projects. They can wait for you to have family time or time to yourself. It can wait until next year when you have more time and money (you can save up). It can wait until Judy gets here or Jake, who never does much can do it. It can wait until a better time. You don’t have to rush to do all the things and create the life you want to live in one summer. Life is created but it’s also curated. Let me say that again, “Life is crated but it’s also curated”-Nicole Jackson did say this.

As I continue to “take” sabbatical moments this month and the rest of the year, I will indeed put off some things this summer and this month. I looked at my to do list and remembered it needs to be organized by days and times. It needs to have some flexibility. This month, I will be saying no to events outside. I will be saying no to speaking engagements (Already?) Yes. I need a breather as I am processing grief. In fact, grief has just started loading. It’s been in that little circle that goes around when you are waiting for something to load since January of this year. I am getting hit with pebbles sometimes and other times bricks. So, don’t mind if I do put off somethings. And in July it will be a no spend month on unnecessary things.

What will you put off?

~Nikki
