Sunday Morning Coffee Musings: Who Benefits From The Way You Think?

Speaking of what you think, this blog post might be a Christian thing if you don’t read all the way to the end. But WHO benefits from the way you think? What you think about life?Yourself? Others? Your situation? Who? Now here is where it can go religion or go spiritual; does God and you benefit from what you think or does the devil or the people that planted the seeds of what you think benefit? For example, if you were taught through negative words about how you should feel about yourself and others, how has that benefited you? Has it kept you angry, sad, complaining, stagnant, in fear, playing small, living in isolation? How is this way of seeing yourself and others HELPED YOU? How has it helped the next generation you are raising or are in contact with?

And I guess the next big question you/I should ask is WHERE DID THE THOUGHT COME FROM? Did it come from the ethers? Did it come from the experiences we have had with people, parents, family, relationships, a job, and brace yourself, even ourselves? Consider the source of your thoughts. And if it did come from you consider your age and mindset at that time.

When I “take into captivity” my thoughts (“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” 1 Corinthians 10) and examine them, you know after I have spun out from anxiety or hit the bottom of depression (because I don’t always grasp what is happening at the time), I realize these thoughts are part of a faulty belief system, imaginations set into motion by triggers. Who’s pulling the trigger? And these thoughts are HIGH THINGS that exalt themselves against the knowledge of God and my HIGHER SELF (MY SPIRIT). And boom! We have a collision of falsehoods, the past, the truth, the present, the future, etc. etc.

And they are not TRUTH while they may be facts. And 99% of the time, I have yet to experience what I think is going to happen because I have not arrived into the future. But if I continue to focus/meditate on these things I most certainly can create them. I can subconsciously guide my own actions and others towards the things I have allowed my mind to obsess over. Rumating is awful. It’s like trying to change the station but every station is playing the same song.

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Phillipians 4:8

Is what I am thinking pure or polluted? Is it true? Is it honest? It is just? Is it lovely? Is it of a good report? Can’t be if it’s making me feel like I am losing my mind. It can’t be if it keeps me me small and silences my voice. It can’t be if it’s “running me low”. It can’t be if it makes me feel angry, lost, insecure, hopeless. Who’s the beneficiary of my negative thoughts and talks about myself? I heard it said last week, “Every negative conversation we have in our minds is internal violence.” Who remains in control when I think the way I think?
