Sunday Morning Coffee Musings: Run, Red, Run

Dear Mama Lucille,

Do you remember that dream you had about me taking off and running over the hills like I was a jet? Of course, you remember because where you are now your memory is restored in perfect operating condition. Well, I think I may be finally lacing up my shoes, or heels, which ever will do. Maybe, barefoot is best. Blessed are the feet of those that preach the gospel (good news).

May has been a month of rain where I thought April showers were supposed to bring May flowers. I tell you the truth, May has brought up some things I was not expecting and it has brought pleasant surprises. It has brought up worms and flowers. How much rain is too much rain? I guess it’s okay as long as one is still alive and well or barely hanging in there. There are many things we don’t get to control or have much control over and that is the weather. We do have the most important aspect of control and that is our response, our decisions and sometimes we have to wrestle with the choices presented to us. Yet, there is some control there, too.

I went to what my culture calls a Homegoing Celebration (funeral) and I was quite inspired by the life this Queen lived. It takes guts to live a life as bold as she did. Some of us seem to be born with that grit and grind and some learned it was the only way to survive or thrive in this world. Some us seem to be shot out of a canon and others rising through mud or concrete. Where do you start your journey? Anywhere you are. Take the lessons and blessings of the past, and use them in the now. And the future will build itself out. Don’t concern yourself with age or all that you have been through if you are using that as an excuse. And most certainly, don’t concern yourselves with the opinions of people not living their lives the way they wish. And if they are living their lives the way they want, and insist you live like them, I can tell you they aren’t living it to the fullest. The fullest involves healing and a joy the world didn’t give. When you are healed and have joy, you don’t try to control the life of others. You just try to enjoy the one you have.
