Did you wake up and all of your old habits and patterns were gone? No? Neither are mine. Did you wake up and discover you were a new you? I didn’t. And funny thing is a friend of mine who is a good friend but, can be very sarcastic at times, called me and was being very sarcastic and annoying. I said, I see it’s a NEW YEAR, SAME YOU. We laughed. And then I got off the phone because I was so not in the mood on this first day of January. My day seemed to have a “stuckness” or a “snag” to it. Mostly everything I did had a snag or didn’t go as planned. The right word is “coagulated”, a semi solid state.
Think about it like this. If you have ever ridden a bike and the chain was a little rusty, it took some “riding” it out to get it going and you could feel the kinks! And even if you were riding pretty good time to time there would be another kink here and there. The chain needed some oil. A coagulation is like a clot in the blood. Blood is supposed to flow easily but a clot in blood that has become solid or semi solid is not good. January is like a month of coagulated energy. You’re trying to get going but, it’s sticky. And this can lead to frustration and anger.
My 5 cents (5 instead of 2 cents because of inflation these days) is to TAKE IT SLOW. REST IN BETWEEN. THERE IS NO RACE. REMEMBER IT’S THE SEASON OF WINTER. This season requires movement but intentional movement. It requires action but, intentional, thought out actions. And it requires you to move around the stuckness.
You need some oil. Oil in this scenario is symbolic of meditation, mindfulness, affirmations, scripture quoting, etc. You want a steady flow. A steady flow around and over these obstacles. You may need some boundaries as well because as soon as you sit down, someone will need something. Say it with me: “No. Not now. Tomorrow. I think you can handle that yourself. It seems urgent but, I think you can wait until another day to go. I need to rest. I need to do some cleaning or planning.” Or maybe decline the call and call back tomorrow. Don’t be so accessible to everyone.
OH AND GIVE YOURSELF MUCH GRACE, space and forgiveness. After all, you’re just getting started. And observe nature from within and out if you can as often as you can. You are part of nature. Become one or partner with the season of Winter.
