When you read the first sentence of the quote, “Self-reflection is a HUMBLING process”, how did you feel? Did you feel like running away? Did you not really want to read the rest of the quote? Was it the “humbling” part or the “process” part or both?

The moments you do ask yourself, “why did I say that?” or “why do I do that?” do you ever answer yourself? And when you do, is it usually someone else’s fault? What are you really upset about? What things are you carrying that you need to unpack? Unburden yourself? BREATHE. So much. I know, I know.

We could talk about what you do and what you say and tie it all back to childhood, environments, relationships, friendships, broken promises, lost hopes and dreams. We can tie it to a job you hate or the toxic work environment. We can question, and have the guts, (I wanted to say balls), to question our thoughts, habits, and behavior. But I’m asking you to float above the ties, the sadness and madness for a moment.

Who are you from your higher self? Who is it that you aspire to be? I hope it’s your authentic self. I hope it’s the you before life shaped you. I hope you know that you have the power to reshape you. You have help. Oh, yes you do! You have a God. You have Spirit. You have books. You have prayer. You have meditation. You have therapy. You have self reflection and the power of response.

Who would you be if you were not stressed or burdened? What would you do? Where would you go? How would you carry yourself? How would you treat others? How would you treat you?

“the you before life shaped you,” is what we all need to question and return to.
