Compositions of my life energy

A is for (3) “A.M.” My Life In Lyrics

I still have a crush on Rob Thomas after all of these years. I fell in love with Matchbox 20 after seeing this video and anytime I was in Huey’s Bar and Grill I would select Matchbox 20 songs on the jukebox. This was in my 20’s and second shift workers would get off of work on a Friday and head to this bar and grill that was open late. I thought it was so cool they had something as retro as a jukebox.

I found out this song was written by him and it was about his mom battling cancer when he was young boy. Before I knew any of this I resonated with the song emotionally and especially this part:

She says, “Baby, well, it’s 3 AM, I must be lonely”
Well, heaven she says, “Baby, yeah, well, I can’t help
But be scared of it all sometimes
And the rain’s gonna wash away, I believe this”

Well, she believes that life isn’t made up of all that you’re used to
And the clock on the wall has been stuck at 3 for days and days
-Matchbox 20, 3 A.M.

I didn’t know what I was going through or feeling at that age. I knew I was in a space and place I didn’t want to be in as far life, job, career. None of my life in my 20’s made sense. My life from the time I came into an awareness of self, didn’t make sense. I know I was feeling lonely, scared of it all sometimes, and although I didn’t believe the rain would was away, I believed it when I heard him sing it. So, I played the song often.

I discovered early in life “life isn’t made up of all that you’re used to”. Life in my twenties was unfamiliar. And “the clock on the wall stuck at 3 for days and days” was me being in a loop of loneliness. Unfortunately, looking for love in all of the wrong places to fill that void would take me down through rough, rocky and valley terrain.

So, this is my #AtoZChallenge for the month of April and my theme is: My Life in Lyrics. I hope you enjoy it!
