Maybe you’ve heard “the body is like a temple and we should take care of it” or something along those lines. Our body houses our organs, skeletal system, nervous system, muscular system, spirit or soul, mind or heart. I’m not telling you anything you don’t know. You already know why you should take care of your body. You know if you should do better. But, what this is about is more of why this year focuses on the totality of YOU and this post is about the body.
The climate we live in on this planet is changing and I am not only talking about weather. I’m talking about health care and political climates. Stress levels are rising. How you feed your body and how you move your body absolutely needs your undivided attention this year. The cost of eating is on the rise.
In some cultures, it’s difficult to change the mentality of health and wellness. In my culture, it’s extremely difficult. We prefer to hear it from professionals that look like us because of the abuse and negligence that have come from others in the past and well, present as well. Those thoughts get passed down. Even when we hear it from each other, age plays a huge difference in who listens and who doesn’t along with personal beliefs.
Regardless of your age, race, culture, gender, your body is asking you to focus on it. Not in a glorified, gym rat way. But in a “please feed me healthy, good food more often” way. It’s saying, “please move me more often”. It’s saying, if you feed me better, if you move me more, you will feel better overall. You may be able to handle the stressors in life better. At least physically better. Maybe your mind can handle the stress but, a clogged heart doesn’t care how much you mentally don’t care or emotionally don’t show it. It doesn’t care if you are 150 lbs or 250 lbs.
It’s saying, I know you have this illness or dis-ease or a disability but, that doesn’t mean to stop caring about me. Your body is doing the best it can under the circumstances. Why won’t you help it?
