Yes, I have answered the call to detox this week and perhaps for next week as well. I believe I need it. At least one meal or snack will be a detox juice or smoothie. It’s fitting as I make my way through July’s sabbatical. I am doing it according to colors. Yesterday was orange and we tried it as a smoothie but, it needed to be strained and became more of a juice. I will have the leftover of it this evening.

A detox is the process of removing toxins — a generic term for something that makes you feel unwell — from your body. Your body does this automatically, though. That’s the job of the liver and other organs. -Grand Falls Recovery. Yes, your liver detoxes, removes, toxins from you body. So, why “detox” with smoothies or juices that are healthy. I believe they have their benefits and it gives the body a break from all of the not so healthy things and it’s a way to incorporate a healthier alternative. However, little research has been done and the little that was done says there are no benefits.

Well, you know I love science and I have lived long enough to know one day there may be some grand research and it will say, “Oh, there are so many benefits to juicing and healthy smoothies!” and 3 years later, “Oh, never mind, juicing and smoothies are terrible for your body!” Ha!

My rationale is, I feel called to do it. Therefore, I am doing it on this sabbatical as I believe it will help my body, mind, and spirit. You know when you feel better, when you drink more water, eat healthier, it does something for your mind and spirit. At least, for me it does. I am far from a health nut. I mean, I have dessert every night after dinner. And well, other unhealthy snack “issues” (not addictions lol) occasionally become a craving for a few days…weeks…and then poof I am over it! Perhaps, this “detox” is just for discipline and training to listen to my body and spirit and that’s it. And that is all I need.

How do you feel about detoxing with juicing or smoothies? Or do you simply just enjoy it?

I never have and likely will not. I am glad for anyone who wants to do so, but I am not one of them. For me I do not see the value. But as I said, I wish you the very best.
