A to Z Challenge: R is for Ruth Chang-Decisions Decisions

Ruth Chang is a professor of philosophy at Rutgers University. Her research focuses on decision-making and the human condition: how do we exercise our freedom through the choices we make? -NPR

Everyday we make decisions. Some small and some big. Simple and Complex. And sometimes we are paralyzed by fear of making a decision. So, we don’t make a decision at all. And when we do that, we indeed have a made a decision to let life, the universe, others decide what happens in our lives. We give our power away. I did a blog post on decisions and choices. But what about those hard decisions we have to make? Here is a link to a video of Ruth Chang and the topic of decisions.

“Far from being sources of agony and dread, hard choices are precious opportunities for us to celebrate what is special about the human condition, that we have the power to create reasons for ourselves to become the distinctive people that we are.”– Ruth Chang

  1. Decisions are absolutely vital to intelligent life. I’m fairly certain that independence is defined by making decisions rather than just accepting whatever.
    Excellent post.

  2. I like the part about not making a decision is actually deciding to let an outside force make the decision. I will try to remember that the next time I have decision paralysis.

    Great post.
