When the song below came out, I was just beginning to get a handle on being a mother. It was right at the time I begin to get my life back on track and this song meant so much to me! It inspired me and it reminded me of who I was/am.
It reminded me that I was in control of the choices and decisions I make next. And as I have turned 50 this year, this song takes on a new sense if freedom. I want to be free of the opinions of others, including my religion, Christianity. What am I saying? I am saying, I hate boxes. If God can’t be put into a box, neither can I. “Leave me be” and let me enjoy my life they way I want to enjoy it. It is my freedom. It does not, will not look like yours. The song is by Jill Scott and the title of the song is GOLDEN. She is NEO-Soul and R & B.
Golden by Jill Scott
I’m taking my freedom
Pulling it off the shelf
Putting it on my chain
Wear it around my neck
I’m taking my freedom
Putting it in my car
Wherever I choose to go
It will take me far
I’m taking my own freedom
Putting it in my song
Singing loud and strong
Grooving all day long
I’m taking my freedom
Putting it in my stroll
I’ll be high-steppin’, y’all
Letting the joy unfold
I’m holding on to my freedom
Can’t take it from me
I was born into it
It comes naturally
I’m strumming my own freedom
Playing the God in me
Representing His glory
Hope He’s proud of me, yeah
Livin’ my life like it’s golden
Livin’ my life like it’s golden
Livin’ my life like it’s golden
Livin’ my life like it’s golden, golden
I’m living my life, like it’s golden, golden
Golden, golden, golden, golden
I’m living my life, like it’s golden, golden
Golden, golden, golden, golden
