How on Earth can this possibly be the year of YOU when the sky is falling all around us? How can we focus on self when so many people need us? When we are worried, concerned, saddened by the troubles of our world? HOW? Wouldn’t it be selfish to focus on SELF?
No. Not if we are talking about taking care of the totality of you. Not if we are talking about tending to the maintenance of your body, mind, soul, and spirit during these wild and crazy times. Not if we are talking about staying on track in your life whether that is achieving big goals or simply making it through the day, hour by hour. Maybe taking care of you is simply getting at least 4 nights of quality sleep. If focusing on the totality of you keeps you from unraveling, having a stroke, or going head first into dark depression, then no, no my friend, it is not selfish.
You have heard it before, “You can’t pour from an empty cup” and these days you need to be a jug or gallon to pour into others, get through your day while dealing with your own personal issues. Tending to the totality of you helps you function at a quality level. It helps you to respond to the stressors of this world and depending on where you live in this world, that could be overwhelming.
Your body, your temple needs to be taken care of. Your mind needs to be protected. Your soul would like to be heard. Your spirit craves a balance and spiritual nourishment. Maybe even a good cleansing is in order.
Either way, for the next 27 days, I will attempt a series I am calling the YOU series. It’s so we can understand in depth what this YEAR of YOU business is all about. I believe life, God, is trying to tell us that by focusing on the totality of ourselves, we better ourselves and this creates a better world. If you want to help yourself, better yourself. If you want to help others, better yourself. If you want to achieve your dreams, goals, or see your intentions manifest and be able to maintain them with integrity, gratitude, or to gain them without selling your soul, focus on the totality of YOU. (I know that was a long and improper sentence but, hey I don’t have to turn this blog post in to be graded.)

“What profit a man that gain the whole world” means that even if someone acquires everything the world has to offer (wealth, power, fame), it is completely pointless if they lose their soul or moral integrity in the process; essentially, there is no true benefit to gaining the whole world at the cost of one’s spiritual well-being. – Matthew 16:26
