A warm brew makes for a warm heart

As you proceed with courage, revolutionary change and righteous rebellion in your life or for the sake of others, don’t forget about the mundane. Before you pick up your cape, don’t forget to clean the kitchen. Don’t forget to eat. Don’t forget to exercise. Don’t forget to pick up the kiddos. Please, don’t forget the kids! Don’t forget to make time for family and friends. Don’t forget to wash and fold clothes. Don’t forget about that boring Zoom call or the neighborhood watch meeting. Ah yes, the mundane.

It’s the same old same old that you think is slowing you down. It’s not. If you take a moment, you may find something sacred in the mundane because the mundane can sometimes be what grounds us as well as what makes us break out of routine that is not serving us. This not about the latter.

How can find something sacred in the mundane? For me I sometimes think of cooking as a sacred ritual that allows me to nourish my body and my family’s bodies. I sometime remind myself of how good I will feel to have fresh, clean, unwrinkled (almost) clothes once I put them away after washing. I know that pile of clothes in my chair is going to annoy the hell out of me after two days. I try to remember that in my GETTING or DOING that I must also “BE”. I also must be still. I also must rest. I also must make times for the people who love me and care about me. After all, some of them made time for me in their busy lives and schedules and someone is making time for you.

So, let’s embrace this season of change but let’s not neglect the sacredness in some of the mundane things we do.
