Dad, “Pastor Daddy”, there is so much to say and so many memories. Too much, too many to be reduced to a paragraph. You are the best dad in the world, and I say that without fluff. I literally can’t think of anything from you I need to heal from and to say that, is a blessing. I am going to miss your face, your smile, your laugh that at times are so deep there is no sound. I love it when we get tickled about something and couldn’t stop “acting up” about it. I’ll miss the inside jokes and shenanigans. Most of all I will miss our deep spiritual talks, respectful debates, and our talks about life. Thank you for trusting me with your honest thoughts, feelings, and secrets. You were a father first, a best friend as I grew up. I came late one night in the rain to see you and you said “You didn’t have to come to see me” but; “Though my soul may set in darkness, it will rise in perfect light; I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night” and I leave you with this piece of that poem,
“I must say Good-bye, my pupil, for I cannot longer speak;
Draw the curtain back for Venus, ere my vision grows too weak:
It is strange the pearly planet should look red as fiery Mars,
God will mercifully guide me on my way amongst the stars.”-The Old Astronomer to His Pupil by Sarah Williams. ~Love Pooh Bear
This was my love note to my father in his obituary. Each remaining sibling wrote one.
