A Meditation For When Your Feelings Are Hurt

A few days ago, my dad was struggling with Parkinson’s Psychosis. He is a mild mannered guy and always has been. Rarely, is he irritated or agitated. But as many of you may know, Parkinson’s and other brain diseases can change personalities. If you don’t know, now you know. Well, I was in the healthcare field (unwillingly) for some years and I learned not to take things personally when people are in pain or not themselves. Yes, it can hurt depending on what they say and even if it was personal (Oh, you will know), you have to suck it up and do your job. You can vent about it later.

Well, my dad has never really acted in a way or said anything that truly hurt my feelings but, he did that day and twice. I know it was not him because I know what Parkinson’s Psychosis is and I have seen him at his worse. I know who my real father is. I know his character, morals, values, personality. Parkinson’s can even change the personality of a person and I can see a small change in his. Well, I was shocked at how hurt I was. It caught me off guard. As, I left the rehab facility, I rode home listening to Sade. I don’t know but Sade always makes me feel good. But it didn’t last long because as soon as I pulled under my carport I could not deny my hurt feelings.

I found this powerfully, simple meditation that was not about escaping my hurt feelings but accepting them. Here is the link:

All three affirmations registered with me but the one I want to share is this one: “This is a “moment” of feeling hurt.”

When I heard that spoken and I spoke it, I was reminded this is a “moment” and it was okay for me to feel this hurt. I did not have to try to push it down or rush it away. I wasn’t on the job and this wasn’t a stranger. I also got a chance to vent to a group of Parkinson’s Caregivers who “get it”. So, I hope this is one video that you can save when your feelings are hurt.
