Compositions of my life energy

C is for Cross: My Life in Lyrics

Well, it’s not far down to paradise
At least it’s not for me
And if the wind is right you can sail away
And find tranquility
Oh, the canvas can do miracles
Just you wait and see
Believe me

It’s not far to never never land
No reason to pretend
And if the wind is right you can find the joy
Of innocence again
Oh, the canvas can do miracles
Just you wait and see
Believe me

Sailing
Takes me away to where I’ve always heard it could be
Just a dream and the wind to carry me
Soon I will be free

Sailing by Christopher Cross is a classic and he had me at “it’s not far down to paradise.” In my mind I am packing my bag before he gets to the next verse. I mean the melody makes you feel as if you’re instantly transported on the deck. It’s meditative. I bet it takes you down several “notches” as you listen to it.

You see what he sees and you feel what he feels. I wanted to escape to wherever this boat is going and that’s thing; it has no destination. It’s one of the times going nowhere is acceptable.

I was only 4 years old when this song came out and I can’t remember my first time hearing it but, no matter where you are when you hear it, it puts you into a peaceful space. Life can be rough for all of us and money can be tight. I think being able to lay down outside on a cool, breezy day or to lay in a hammock rocking from side to side with this jam in the background is “calm”. It’s escape. It’s your imagination as Christopher Cross is at the helm and you are just their for the ride and the sunset.
