Listen, I am afraid of things like opossums and rodents. Let’s establish that right of the bat. I was getting ready to leave my home to go next door and stay overnight (caregiver) when my daughter turned on the porch light and I was at the carport door, I saw a huge “thing” and a tail. I screamed “OMG what is that??? I think it’s a rat!! No! A “possum”!!!! (In the U.S. we have opossums but in Australia there are possums. They are different. But, in the U.S. we mostly say “possum” and not opossum. At least, the “o” isn’t always pronounced.) I could have fainted.

My daughter comes to the door of the carport and we are standing there trying to determine which way it went so I could make my exit. We were standing there and pointing and suddenly, my daughter screams and points, “OMG HE’S RIGHT THERE!!!!!!” It was standing there looking at us, looking for him!!!! And continued to stare until I bang on the door. It then ran behind my back tire and peeped around it to see if we were still there. Again I banged on the door and said, “We are still here! Go away!!!” He ran into the flower bed. And I knew it was headed most likely towards my parents house. Sure enough when I called my mom, “Mom! Close the iron door!!! There is a possum out there!!!” She says, “I see it!!!!!” I hear the door slam and lock. Needless to say, I was NOT coming out tonight. I usually leave before dark to head over.

(I hope you are laughing at me/us!)

Of course you know I wanted to know the spiritual meaning or sign for me. So, of all that I read, here is what resonated to me.

TRULY, this creature of the night wanted to be seen! And it wanted us to see it! Pay attention! I have come with messages!

Expect the unexpected to occur in a positive way. You will be shocked. You will be amazed.

Protection. You are protected. (Not from the opossum but from the unseen in the dark. The opossum has night vision.)

Move out of your comfort zone BUT NOT WITH DRASTIC, THOUGHTLESS, ACTIONS. Move methodically. Move with mindfulness and intent. And please, move in silence. Make no announcements. Move in the dark. Away from the noise and bright light of society.

Observe your nervous energy. Take care of your nervous system. It has been on edge for a very long time and it takes effort to soothe it and time to heal it. It takes mindfulness to maintain it. Tend to your your whole self.

What you come into alignment, the “universe”, the God of the universe, will align things in your favor by clearing the path ahead. (Hence, the opossum being in my path and I in its path).

All of that from an opossum sighting? Yes. For those of us that believe in signs and wonders, messages, coincidences and synchronization, yes, all of that.

Girl. Um no. I’m with you. I cannot stand opossums. They are the nastiest, grotesque looking things I’ve ever laid eyes on and they those beedy eyes that shine in the dark. Ugh 🤢

Anywho. I agree about the signs though lol
