I am an MTV and VH1 baby. So, who was this long, blonde hair guy jumping across the stage? Van Halen. I liked the song. My brother and I jumping off the couch as we sneaked to watch MTV when my parents were not at home. Later on in life, you began to listen to the lyrics of songs and understand their meaning and apply it to your life, or not.
I remember listening to a station and this came on in my 20’s. I heard the lyrics in a different way. I worked for Autozone Corporate Office as a measly stock room person at the corporate office. We could listen to the radio but, they kept it on a station that played very little R & B, soul. It had to be Whitney Houston or Michael Jackson. Anyway, imagine people being surprised that I knew this song. Why would they be surprised? Music is universal and we should step outside of genres as much as we should step outside of our paradigms. Go ahead, jump!
I get up, and nothin’ gets me down
You got it tough
I’ve seen the toughest around
And I know, baby, just how you feel
You got to roll with the punches
And get to what’s real
Ah, can’t you see me standin’ here?
I got my back against the record machine
I ain’t the worst that you’ve seen
Ah, can’t you see what I mean?
Ah, might as well jump (jump!)
Might as well jump
Go ahead and jump (jump!)
Go ahead and jump
Ah-oh, hey you!
Who said that?
Baby, how you been?
You say you don’t know
You won’t know until you begin
So, can’t you see me standing here?
I got my back against the record machine
I ain’t the worst that you’ve seen
Ah, can’t you see what I mean?
Ah, might as well jump (jump!)
Go ahead and jump
Might as well jump (jump!)
Go ahead and jump
Jump!
Might as well jump (jump!)
Go ahead and jump
Get it and jump (jump!)
Go ahead and jump
Jump!
Jump!
Jump!
Jump!
