One way to build confidence is to practice affirmations and gratitude. Yesterday, I talked about building confidence in how you speak to yourself. One way to speak to yourself is through affirmations and in turn this builds your confidence.

Affirmations help transform your negative or untrue thoughts about yourself, life, others, and even God! (Shocking. I know.) Transforming your thoughts about yourself and circumstances can build confidence. Read these many of us tell ourselves: I am ugly. I am fat. I am not worthy of love. I am too old to start over. I have been at this job too long to start over. So, I will be miserable here for the rest of my days. How do you feel after reading those statements?

Thoughts or verbalizing things like this only reinforce how you feel about yourself. And some of these thoughts were planted in your mind and heart by someone else, society or some experience. You do not have to keep watering them.

I am a creation of love and light. I love my body no matter the shape. I am worthy of love. I am worthy of a healthy relationship. There is not age limit on starting fresh. I can start over anytime I get ready. I am ready for change.”

How do you feel after reading these affirmations? I hope you feel better.

Gratitude helps us to appreciate where we are right now and what we have. Sometimes we can become stuck on all of the things we don’t have, where we are in life, and what we can’t do. This does not make us feel confident. I’ll use gratitude in the examples of the things we just talked about.

I am grateful to be alive.

I appreciate my body for what it does for me on a daily basis without my help.

I am grateful for the people I love and the people that love me, too.

I am grateful for the money I receive. It has helped me to maintain the life I have now.

I am grateful for the choice to start over anytime I get ready.

You’ve got tools to build a more confident self. Use them 🙂

I did not always have the tools, but I am gaining on them these days.

Same here. As I am typing this, I am trying to regulate my emotions from news that brought up anxiety within me. I am one, grateful I know the term and understand regulating your emotions. Second, I have determined that what I feel is fear. Fear of the future. I am working through that now.
