A friend of mine participates in Lent with her church every year. This year, she asked if I wanted to do it or some version of it. There is only one way to do Lent some may say and maybe they are right. So, I told her I would do a 40 day spiritual/change of diet/custom journey. Of course, she tells me she does a modified version of it.

I’m fine with this “40 day journey” as I usually do something like this around my birthday in March and this runs through my birthday. Plus, it’s a challenge I need at this time. I decided to give up coffee for 10 days and my personal social media pages for 40 days. I have business pages and I don’t consider blogging something that would be worth giving up. I also have modified my diet. I read up on it and then I prayed and waited for instructions for me from the Most High.

It’s my personal pages that get me into wasting time even with time limitations. It’s the scrolling that I can get lost in and “discussions” via comments. It’s not arguing with others that is a problem. It’s actually good dialogue that I engage in. I do my best for the most part not to get pulled into drama and I avoid most news media sites. So, I told my social media friends I won’t be receiving or sending any memes or reels via messenger. Honestly, I think 3 memes or reels a day per person is enough!

So, the coffee. Whew. I didn’t give up coffee because I think it’s addictive. It’s not for me. I gave it up because I enjoy it and I thought it would challenge me. I love the routine of it, the comfort of it. It’s my trusty companion. I like a warm beverage in the mornings. So, I am having tea and for the first time today, brace yourself, I added milk and a bit of sugar. I was delighted! And now I can’t undo it! I usually have tea mid day or at night but not often. Yet, I find myself with all types of tea on hand. I’ll probably drink it more now.

However, I am just marking off the days on the calendar until coffee and I reunite. It’s been lonely without my friend. My hug in a mug.
