This post and the next post are songs that have no lyrics. But they qualify to me because they speak to me in words and visions I can’t explain. There is never a time I hear this song on the radio or in a store that it doesn’t feel like I am walking the beach at sunset or sitting on the porch watching all of the urbaness of summer. It reminds me of my neighborhood that was filled with children and adults that were present and watching over us. It reminds me of drinking water from the water hose or asking our parents, or waiting for our friends’ parents to say yes we could play in the water. It reminds me of block parties with music and grilled burgers. It reminds me freeze cups and freeze pops. I feel like riding my bike with friends. We hung out at the library. It reminds me of the boys playing football in the street or basketball in the backyard. It reminds of laying in the driveway at night with my niece looking at the stars and talking about boys we had a crush on or life. It reminds me of fireflies. It makes me think of the Fourth of July and I know think of Juneteenth as I incorporate it more into my holidays.

It reminds me of watching the sunset over the Mississippi river. It’s a song that crescendos and that is sort of what summer does. It starts off like,”Hey, Summer here, just want to let you know I am about to heat things up.” And it does. It has it’s finally and then comes fall. But summer gradually fades, still shining in the background as fall makes its procession.
