This song is like a prayer of well wishes and blessings. I grew up hearing Rod Stewart singing it and found out it was Bob Dylan who wrote it and sang it first. I have said this before but, I told my friends when I was in junior high school I was never going become old. They told me I had to. I must. But I said no, I am going to be young in my mind and heart forever. I am forever going to learn new things and of course, dress in style. I want to travel and create for as long as I am living.

May the good Lord be with you down every road you roam
And may sunshine and happiness surround you when you’re far from home
And may you grow to be proud, dignified and true
And do unto others as you’d have done to you
Be courageous and be brave
And in my heart you’ll always stay

Forever young (forever young)
Forever young (forever young)

May good fortune be with you, may your guiding light be strong
Build a stairway to heaven with a prince or a vagabond
And may you never love in vain
And in my heart you will remain

And when you finally fly away, I’ll be hoping that I served you well
For all the wisdom of a lifetime, no one can ever tell
But whatever road you choose, I’m right behind you win or lose

I’ve never heard the Rod Stewart version before! I came to this song belatedly, first through Peter Seeger then learned that it was a Dylan song. The lyrics I’ve heard are a bit different: https://www.bobdylan.com/songs/forever-young/
Here’s a very old Pete Seeger singing it with schoolchildren for Amnesty International: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ezyd40kJFq0
I love hearing different versions of songs, that go on changing as they travel and reach new audiences and generations.
