One thing I’ve learned this year and continue to learn is to STOP TALKING to people pretending to be sleep. The proverb “You can’t wake a person that is pretending to be sleep” applies here.
When people don’t want to believe the truth or facts of what you are telling them or what they see they are in denial. Maybe it hurts to think something could be true about a person they love or a thing they care deeply about. Maybe they feel there is nothing they can do and that creates a helpless and hopeless feeling. It disempowers them. So they ignore and avoid.
Sometimes, I start off telling particular people things about a person or situation and I have been stopping mid sentence and saying, “You know what? Let me shut up. Let’s talk about something else.” I’m wasting my time and energy. And I value those two things.
