At night on the radio, they would play slow jams (songs) all night until the morning. My sister and I shared a room and she would listen to them all night. I’d wake up to Luther Vandross, Gladys Knight, Prince and so many R & B artists. My sister and I are 16 years apart. Thanks to the age gap of her and 3 other brothers, I am well rounded in music.

But this QUIET STORM is about Smokey Robinson and a venture into something different from him. It’s another one of those mellow, smooth, floaty, airy songs. Poetic.

Take a listen. It came out the year I was born, 1975 and it’s my favorite from him.

Soft and warm, a quiet storm
Quiet as when flowers talk at break of dawn
Break of dawn
A power source of tender force
Generating, radiating, turn me on
Turn them on

[Pre-Chorus]
Ah, you short-circuit all my nerves
Promising electric things
You touch me and
Suddenly there’s rainbow rings

[Chorus]
Quiet storm
Blowin’ through my life
Oh, quiet storm
Blowin’ through my life
Oh, blow, baby

[Verse 2]
Oh, windy sigh, weaken my
Butterfly caught up in a hurricane (Hurricane)
Hurricane (Hurricane)
Lucky me, umbrella-free
Suddenly I’m caught up in your somber rain (Rain)
Oh, oh

~Nikki
