Coloring and creating can help to reduce stress and relax the brain (mind). It’s not surprise to some I always looked forward to arts and crafts in school or coloring in coloring books. The good thing is you don’t have to be an artist or a crafter to color or create. Some find coloring meditative and something they can do when sad, feeling the blues or depressed to lift their spirits just a bit. And sometimes, all you need is just that little lift to help you towards coming back around or to yourself.
For others, creating whether it’s woodworking or painting, does the same as coloring. It can be baking. It can be sewing or knitting or whatever it is that you do. It can be a hobby. I think when you are creating or crafting or engaging in a hobby, it helps you to connect to something other than what may be going on in your life at that time. Your brain has to focus on what you are doing and sometimes what you are thinking about moves to the back. Sometimes, after painting, I feel like my head is clearer.
Although, I haven’t been in much of a creative mood as an artsy being, I finally baked a cake last week. I haven’t really felt like baking anything since grief. I hope this series helps you this month to cope with (if) whatever you may be facing.
