A few photos from my flower bed. I am a novice at gardening. It’s was 4 years ago when I asked my neighbor how do I start my flower bed? What do I do about my yard? She replied, “You just start. It’s all trial and error and that’s how you learn. There are websites you can go to that will teach about taking care of your yard. But, everything they tell you will not work for your yard or it may work. It’s all trial and error. It will take time.”

I thought to myself, “That didn’t help me at all.” I don’t want to make errors. Just tell me what to do. But, she was right about it all. I am still learning. And finally, it seems I have found some plants to put around the tree in the backyard that squirrels leave alone. Hostas and some ornamental grass are what I planted as a test run. So far, so good. I also had a petunia pop up. I didn’t plant it and I don’t know where it came from. But, apparently, the squirrels don’t like it because the blooms are there. They usually eat them and this is why the previous owners stopped trying to plant anything around the tree.

That didn’t help me at all is hilarious. I think all of these mini lessons are adding up to be the same lesson—surrender, and everything will be fine.
