Hey, Bloggers! What’s New for 2022?

New year 2022 and old year 2021 on sandy beach with waves

What are you doing different with your blog in 2022? Are you making big changes, tweaking things? Or is your blog running smoothly and you plan to keep doing what’s working?

I’ve already changed my plan to give my site a different and fresh look for the new year. I think my popular post, “Sunday Morning Coffee Musings” deserves its own category, so I created one for it. I also removed several categories that I felt could be combined into one or eliminated altogether.

Another thing I am working on is giving my blog a total “energy” makeover. While “confetti” is symbolism for variety, I’d like to pull it together and give it some uniformity. “They” told me I had to pick one thing and blog about it if I wanted to have a successful blog. I thought how boring that would be for me. I opted to blog about a variety of things and to forget having a successful blog if that’s what it would take. With that being said, there is a way to bring variety into uniformity and this is my attempt at it.

What about you, my friends? What are you doing with your blogs in 2022?

Confetti Weekend: Reggae Nights

IMG_20200209_090901_732

Last I attend this same show and had such a wild and crazy good night, I wanted to do it again this year. This year was the 10th Annual Forever Loving Marley (Bob Marley Tribute Show). It did not disappoint!

The show is hosted by the band Chinese Connection Dub Embassy (CCDE) and the venue was Railgarten here in Memphis, TN. The artists of the night included Yubu, Kween Jasir, Black Cream, and CCDE. This is not just a tribute, it’s an experience! It’s an experience right here in the city of Memphis. A city that births not only the blues, rap, hip hop, but births music…period. We birth artists of all genres. We’ve got roots, baby.

Here are my photos from the night. I shared this night my very good sister friend, who’s birthday was celebrated, and one of BFF’s & her hubby that surprised me by showing up. They were out on a date night and in the area. That was cool.

Confetti Weekend: Art. Orijennal Art to You

Last year I had the opportunity to sale and show my work at an art event for African American/Black artists in the Fall of 2018. The B.A.E (Black Art Experience)! It was the first showing of my art and I sold three pieces I believe. In the city of Memphis, and many other cities, there is not enough exposure or outlets for people of color and their art. Well, this young lady created an event that did just that.

Fast forward to this year and here she is opening up her own art gallery, teaching art to children in a school system, and with many more things on the horizon for all things art!

This was the GRAND OPENING that houses several artists in the city, including her beautiful art of black women and girls. Hopefully, I will be able to get a piece of my art in there soon. I marvel at the artists and their works. I got to speak with one of my favorite artists at this opening, Mosal Morszart, and met many more new artist.

Seeing their work on the walls really inspired me and talking with Mosal gave me a confidence boost in my own lane as an abstract artist. Jennifer, has also been very supportive and encourage of my work. This means so much to the black girl inside of me who’s work was shunned by an art teacher in High School. Up until then, many teachers were supportive and I was asked to take on many creative projects in school. I stopped painting after that teacher in High School. It wasn’t until about two years ago I put the brush to the canvas and it was like I never left.

Each artist was able to speak about their work.

Not only is there art for purchase, there is also art to wear and art for your home. I really like this space and I am really proud of Jennifer, a sister that has opened up another door for artists. Click the link for more Orijennal Art!

Confetti Weekend: Jazz Fest

20190525_161705

It was a hot and sunny evening! I am talking southern heat and humidity, but I was so stoked to be there to see one of my favorite jazz guitarist of all time, Mr. Norman Brown. Plus, having all the other jazz artists before him come on was like the cake! I am a huge fan of jazz and just a huge fan of music period. This was a few weeks ago!

20190525_151834

Keyboardist, Keiko Matsui has gained a new fan. Me! I have heard one of her songs played frequently on the jazz stations here. But, I did not know it was her! And everything that she played I enjoyed so much I have purchased more of her music.

20190525_162635

Mike Phillips is a dazzling jazz artist. He is energetic and what we would describe with slang “off the chain.” He jumped off stage and headed for the audience. He brought so much energy to the stage and to the crowd. Mad love and Mad energy was amazing!

20190525_170609

A headliner in his own right, Will Downing was there! I wanted to hear him as much as I wanted to see and hear Norman Brown. All of these artist are superb and hold their own in the business. The smooth voice of Will Downing is intoxicating along with the love songs he sings. The ladies in the crowd were swooning! And rightfully so! He song all of the songs we knew and we sang along.

And here is where I lost my cool. As soon as Norman Brown came onto the stage I was star struck! Totally unexpected from me! I was just so overwhelmed by his presence, his brilliance as an artists,  and thought to myself, “Is this really happening? It is! I am really sitting here, seeing an artist I have ALWAYS wanted to see perform live AND I HAVE AMAZING SEATS!” It took me a moment to come out of my daze, but once I did I enjoyed every single minute of this man’s performance. He gave it ALL he had!

This will go down in history of my memories as one of the greatest experiences of my life. Hearing and seeing Norman Brown perform live is a highlight of music memories.

Sunday Morning Coffee Musing: Blog Reflections 2018 (Successes & Failures)

2cccc867472bfc542318442d99dc6404

I’ve been thinking about my blog and what I would like to do differently. This year has been a pretty good year for my blog as far as being consistent in some areas such as the “Sunday Morning Coffee Musings”, and overall posting consistently. The areas I want to improve in are more content on my journey as it relates to my age, more blog post about my journey as it relates to Rheumatoid Arthritis & Fibromyalgia, and re-blogging others’ blogs in an effort to create more community.

I have linked my blog to a Facebook page (Nikki’s Confetti Life) and on Instagram as Nikki’s Confetti Life. I don’t see nearly as much activity on Facebook as I do on Instagram. However, where I see the most involvement for Facebook is when I do a video or more of an inspirational piece and boost it.

Some of my goals for the upcoming blog year:

  • Become more interactive with those who have Rheumatoid and Fibromyalgia, in hopes we can be supportive of each other. I find that lacking among some, but I am going to keep searching for a tribe.
  • I’d like to grow my followers, but more than anything I would like to grow my readers. There is a difference and we know it. I think we do.
  • Redesign my site.
  • Be consistent on a series!
  • Advertise by boosting posts and being consistent about my blog on Insta

And I have one very, very special surprise coming in 2019 🙂

Do you have any blogging goals? Tips? Ideas? Let’s hear it!

Hello Fall! Easy Fall Wreath

IMG_20170917_161501_769 (1)

Fall has arrived! Even if it’s by calendar only because it’s a summery day here in Memphis, Tennessee. Decorating the home for fall or any other season does not have to cost a fortune. Decorating the home for any reason does not have to cost a fortune in my frugal, but fashionable opinion. The cost to make this wreath was $5. Each item was a dollar from the dollar tree. Also, the other decorations below were from dollar tree (and I stayed on budget!)

To make this wreath is as simple as it looks. I wrapped the burlap a little more than halfway around the wreath and secure it with a few drops of glue with a glue gun. I am sure you can use any craft glue. I just wanted to be extra special 🙂 The flowers I cut and weaved through the spaces of this wreath. I secured them by winding them around. You may want to add some green tape tape for added security. This took me less than 30 minutes!

Weekend Confetti! Memphis Farmers Market Opening Day Pt. 1

20170401_114221

It was opening day for the Memphis Farmers Market this past Saturday. Multiple product vendors and multiple local farmers bring quite the variety. Each week there is something different and some vendors are staples. My first stop was the all natural soap station. How could you not notice all of the beautiful colors and the fragrances floating in the spring’s wind? I did not know which ones to choose as I wasn’t the only having a hard time deciding because the table was crowded with customers. I finally settle on lavender lemongrass and two cherry blossoms. One for my daughter and the other for my niece who hung out with me all day Saturday. Cosgrove and Lewis. cosgroveanlewis.com an also on Instagram! @cosgroveanlewis

Next was an amazing all natural cleaning company. I smelled each product and wow! Your brain is going “Wait, that smells familiar. Oh, now where have I smelled that before…is that oregano?” When these guys say all natural they really mean it! So Fresh and So Green Housekeeping Co. www.etsy.com/shop/sofreshsogreengreen You can follow them on Instagram! @sofreshansogreen.memphis

Handmade pottery is always something that catches my eye and local pottery is always under the pavilion at Memphis Farmers Market. Erica Bodine has beautiful, quality, colorful pottery. facebook.com/ericabodinepottery and you can find her on Instagram as @ericabodinepottery

Fresh flower are what I look forward to at the Memphis Farmers Market. It is an instant mood booster in my early morning daze and graze through the market. I may have had my coffee to get me there, but I am nowhere near awake. Luckily with the colorful flowers and smiling cheerful vendors it all quickly changes as the hustle and bustle of the market gets underway.

Fashion Confetti: A Night Out

img_20170107_121052

The shoes are by Guess, which  I’ve had for sometime, but I purchased them at TJMAXX. The dress is by London Times and my lipstick is Zoe’s Red by L’oreal. I went out to a birthday celebration at IN LOVE’S nightclub here in Memphis, TN. The dj was great. The service and staff was great. The live band, the PC band, was amazing. It was a setting for adults.

A “Country Glamour”Christmas

15241192_10155545607648266_4366478087743659025_n
The finished product of Country Glamours

I think it’s safe to to say I like the Holidays. Every year I come up with some theme and this year it was “Country Glamour.” It’s a mixture of country living (think barns, lumberjack, farm, deers, owls, etc) meets bling, pearls, sparkle, and diamonds.Basically, the governor’s daughter marries a cowboy! Barn fires and hoedowns for everyone! Spike the apple cider someone.
