I’ve had this in restaurants but, I never thought to make it. It was one day when I bought a bag of apples too early and they were not sweet! I forced myself to eat some and with the others I would put them on my toast or chop them up in my oatmeal. But there were just too many left over and I did not want to eat them. So, I looked up what to do with leftover apples. This was the first recipe that popped up and I had everything in my kitchen to make it.

When I made this recipe I didn’t have granny smith apples and I still don’t use them in this recipe. From what I remember, it needed to be a sweet and tart apple. Well, the apple wasn’t very sweet but it was very tart! Nevertheless, it worked.

Preheat the oven to 350 F

2 or 2 1/2 cup of apples (medium sliced or diced chunky) (you can go up to 5 cups of apples with this recipe and use the same measurements for everything else)

1/2 cup of sugar

1/2 tsp of sugar

1 tsp of vanilla extract

Combine all of that in one bowl. Make sure the apples are coated well. Put this into a small baking dish. If you are doing the up to 5 apples you may need a bigger dish.

The topping

1/2 cup of flour

1/3 cup of old fashioned oats

2/3 cup of packed brown sugar

1/4 tsp of salt

1/2 stick of melted butter

Put all of this in a bowl with the melted butter being last and stir it until it becomes crumbly. Sprinkle this on top of the apple mix and bake in the oven 45-60 minutes. That’s it!

You eat it as is, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream, or add some caramel on top.
