I like to take a walk about town in a city and discover places and works of art. Local artists or not, I like art! I like architecture. Imagine walking down the street and suddenly you see this giant metal head. And yes, that is water flowing over the slabs of smooth concrete.
A few feet away was another interesting piece of art made of metal. I stood there for quite some time observing the different things I saw in this.
And on the way back from Sweetie Pies, a huge cathedral! I have more pictures of this, but I didn’t want to bore you!
My thoughts when I walked through the automated/self automated guide of the King Tut Exhibition at the Science Museum in St. Louis: Mind Blowing! It was so engaging my 16 year old and children that look to be about 8 years old were fully engaged.
It was my daughter’s idea to go inside and up The Arch. Initially, I was going to let her and my niece go, but decided I had to go to insure their safety. The next thing you know, my brother and nephew were game and we all went. It was crazy being inside this tiny pod that seated all 5 of us. It was tight quarters and they ask if you are claustrophobic! It was weird as you could hear the ticking and clicking, and feel the bend of the arch on your way up. The Arch sways about a few inches on regular days, but up to 9 inches on windy days. Thank God it was not a windy day! Our ears popped a little, but once we got to the top…those views were lovely!
Last week I went to St. Louis for a convention with my mother and some of my family. While my mother and I went to classes and lectures, there was still plenty of time to explore and enjoy some of the things St. Louis had to offer like Sweetie Pies aka The Crust! The day we went Oprah Winfrey’s camera crew was there filming for the show Sweetie Pies that comes on OWN. We had to sign waivers and take pictures. The line was down the block, but it was well worth all of that standing when I got my fried chicken and sweet tea to perfection! LOL!!! I made sure I wore comfortable shoes because I knew it would be a line. We also went shopping at one of the outlets that day. I was beyond tired each day so I never got to unpack my swimsuit and get in the hot tub. My family was really supportive, understanding on this trip and did everything on this trip to make sure I was comfortable (I have Rheumatoid Dis-ease). I also did not overextend myself much. I slept like a log each nite and was refreshed each morning. Oh and I was cute each day in class! I also met some wonderful people I hope to see next year in Oklahoma.
I’ve been to St. Louis many times as a child and a few times as an adult. It was always a rush as an adult. Six flags, zoo, eat, relax at the hotel, go home. But, this conference allowed me to see St. Louis in a different light. There was much more to see and do for a week and I did not feel stressed or rushed. However, I must return for a week without a conference and do much more! I’m an advocate for visiting a place a few times and doing something different each time.
I took a photo of the sunset each nite from my hotel room.
The Memphis Barbecue Company has some of the best barbecue around. Granted, it’s in Horn Lake, MS it’s still on my list of the best barbecue “near” Memphis. Award winning and to be exact 10 World Championships to boast! The Pitmaster is World BBQ Champ Melissa Cookman.
They have three other locations. We went here Saturday to celebrate the birthdays of two brothers and a nephew. I ordered the seasoned baby back ribs and I could only eat three ribs it was so meaty. The greens and mac n cheese was delicious and so was the cornbread.
This place is a staple and a favorite of Memphians. You can enjoy it any day, but especially their brunch buffet on a Sunday. A jazz trio is playing and the patio is open. Its New Orleans style right in Memphis! My favorites are many, but the bread pudding and the catfish with crawfish sauce on the buffet! Oh and the cheesecake…wait…let’s not forget the peach cobbler or the fresh fruit…well, what about the omelets made to order and the waffles??? Oh let me tell you about the Cocktails Menu…fresh mimosas, hurricanes and bellinis for everyone! However, I like them all!
Sometimes the manner in which you arrive to your destination is not a pleasant one. Yet, the desitnation will make the struggle not have that much of an impact on you. You can’t be in awe of beauty and hurt for long. Nature heals. #BeachPleaseWisdom
You shouldn’t have to fight for a peace of mind when you are surrounded by the beauty of nature. If so, check the company in your environment.#BeachPleaseWisdom
When you rise up early in the morning to observe the dawning of a new day, God will speak to you about the troubles on your heart. Meet God in the cool of the day.#BeachPleaseWisdom
The storm was on the left side of the water and clarity was on the other side. Eventually, clear skies pushed the storm along. #BeachPleaseWisdom
Some can be on vacation physically and still be mentally enslaved to chaos, contention, and confusion. #BeachPleaseWisdom
Sometimes we put ourselves in situations that could have been avoided if we would have waited on God. We just couldn’t pass up the opportunity when all along the opportunity was not ours to began with. Let God order your steps. Even if it is a step back or a stand still, or a “not this time.” #BeachPleaseWisdom
